CLAREX UV-Transmission Acrylic Filter (UVT, S-0)
Transmits ultraviolet light down to 260nm.
CLAREX UV-transmitting acrylic (UVT acrylic) is an optical-grade cast PMMA material designed to transmit ultraviolet light down to 260 nm. These UVT acrylic sheets are engineered for applications where standard acrylic cannot be used because it blocks UV wavelengths.
Standard acrylic contains UV inhibitors that intentionally block ultraviolet light below approximately 380 nm to prevent material degradation. In UV-transmitting acrylic, these inhibitors are removed, allowing ultraviolet transmission down to 260 nm. This formulation makes UVT acrylic sheet materials suitable for specialized optical, imaging, and curing applications that require direct UV exposure.
Because UV inhibitors are removed, UVT acrylic will yellow with prolonged exposure to high-intensity ultraviolet light. This behavior is inherent to all UV-transmitting acrylic materials and should be considered during material selection and system design. See notes below for additional details regarding UV exposure and coating options.
Benefits:
- Transmits ultraviolet (UV) light, approximately 80% transmission at 300 nm
- UV transmitting acrylic engineered specifically for ultraviolet applications
- Optical grade cast PMMA with excellent visual and optical clarity
- No double refraction or birefringence
- Available smooth surface or with an anti-glare texture
- Available scratch-resistant (see note below)
- Available with anti-reflective coating tuned for UV
CLAREX UVT acrylic sheets provide high optical performance for applications requiring controlled ultraviolet transmission while maintaining optical clarity.

Notes about UV-Transmit Sheets
Standard acrylic includes UV inhibitors that protect the material and block ultraviolet light. UVT acrylic sheets omit these inhibitors, allowing UV transmission but increasing susceptibility to UV-related material changes.
Prolonged exposure to high ultraviolet intensity will affect transmission curves over time and may cause yellowing. This behavior is expected for UV-transmitting acrylic and should be accounted for in applications involving continuous UV exposure. The CLAREX hard coat contains UV inhibitors. While hard coat can be applied to UVT acrylic sheets to improve scratch and chemical resistance, it will slightly reduce UV transmission performance.
Furthermore, the CLAREX hard-coat includes UV Inhibitors. So while it is possible to add hard-coat to the UV-transmitting acrylic sheets, please note that the hard-coat will somewhat reduce the UV transmission.
